Cured resin is the most common cannabis extract available – it is any cannabis extract that is made from dried and cured cannabis. When done properly, this process matures precursor cannabinoids into THCa and cures stable terpenes. Cured extracts can take many different forms including Bubble Hash, Budder, Dry Sift, HTFSE and Shatter. These extracts possess a much higher THC content than the same cannabis extracted right after harvest, but they can also lose sensitive terpenes during the curing process. Cured resins usually taste similar, if not the same as the harvested cannabis would.
Live Resin is an extract that is made from cannabis that has been flash frozen after being harvested. As mentioned the cannabis is not dried before extraction meaning these extracts can contain high water content and higher lipid concentrations, but if the cannabis is stored and extracted at very low temperatures this can be avoided. Live resin typically has high concentrations of volatile monoterpenes, giving it the taste of “fresh cannabis” rather than cured cannabis, which can give it a strong flavour that may evaporate over time. Live resin comes in many consistencies, from shatter to sauce.
